DESIGN INSPIRATION: Pencil Tip Descent
Sketching in a Leipzig cafe, I watched my 2B pencil hover before striking paper—the moment lead meets grain, a V-shaped shadow appeared. Outside, a church steeple cut the same angle against grey sky. That dual descent—graphite and architecture—fused into the pendant: zircon as the lead’s glowing tip, silver arms as the shaft extending downward. Not a religious symbol, just the universal gesture of beginning: one point, two lines, infinite possibility. The necklace captures that pregnant pause before creation flows.
THE STORY: The Downward Glance
In old German scriptoria, monks wrote with heads bowed so low their chins nearly touched parchment—a posture called "the downward glance," believed to invite divine focus. Centuries later, a young architect in Weimar wore a similar V-shaped silver pendant while drafting her first cathedral study. Critics said the design lacked "upward aspiration." She touched the pendant’s tip: "True inspiration doesn’t always reach skyward. Sometimes it descends—through observation, humility, the courage to look closely at what lies beneath."
